Dr. Xiaolong (Andy) Wang
Dr. Xiaolong (Andy) Wang is an accomplished AI researcher and leader with over 15 years of experience in the field. He currently serves as the Head of Content Understanding Applied Science at Amazon, where he leads cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
With a proven track record of building and leading high-performing AI teams, Dr. Wang has directed 5+ applied research and engineering teams since 2016. Prior to Amazon, he led the Deep Learning R&D Group in GCDO at IBM Silicon Valley Lab and served as Research Manager and Senior Staff Research Scientist at the AI R&D center in Samsung Research America (SRA).
Dr. Wang completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Delaware, where he conducted research at the VIMS Lab under the supervision of Prof. Chandra Kambhamettu from 2012 to 2015. He earned his M.S. degree from West Virginia University in 2012.
Throughout his career, he has collaborated with many researchers including Dr. Nick Cassimatis, Jon Currey, Dr. Michele Merler, and Dr. Noel C. Codella.
His research interests include: Large Language Models (LLM), Multi-modal Learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, Pattern Recognition, Machine Learning, Machine Learning Infrastructure, Biometrics, Bioinformatics, Social Media Analytics and Signal Processing
He has published over 40 papers in prestigious conferences and journals. He is the recipient of the Test of Time Award at WACV 2025.
He is a member of IEEE, ACM, and the IEEE Computer Society. He serves as an area chair for conferences including NeurIPS 2025, NeurIPS 2024, MM 2020, MM 2021, and others.
